Preparation

  • Prepare tanned leather about 1mm thick for the purse.
You should be able to use it as long as it is thick enough to not stand straight when you hold it and it can be broken.

  • Prepare Nume leather tape to be used for the string part.
The one I use is 4mm wide and 2mm thick, but I think it's a little thicker, so 3mm might be fine.
The length is three times the size of the purse.

  • Prepare a punch to make a hole for the Nume leather tape.
Choose a punch that can punch holes the same size as the tape.

  • This time, I used 4mm thick tanned leather for tape.
This can be made from deer antler or wood instead of tanned leather, or you can just tie it without using anything.

Make

  • Cut the tanned leather of the drawstring part into a circle that is twice the size you want to make with a cutter. 60cm for bottom 30cm.
You can use a compass or something like that, but it doesn't have to be a precise circle or size, so I used a large plate.
The cutter doesn't have to be for leather craft.

  • Press a thin stick-shaped object around the cut tanned leather to make marks for drilling.
The number will increase or decrease depending on the size, but attach 8 to 20 diagonally in places about 5 to 10 mm from the outside. This time, I made 16 holes with a size of 12 cm when completed.
Even if the position of the hole is not accurate, it is almost impossible to tell when it is completed.

  • Punch holes where you marked.

  • I didn't do it this time, but if you want to make the edge part (the back side of the leather) smooth, apply wax such as Tokonol or water and rub it gently.

  • Cut the tip diagonally to make it easier to pass the leather tape through the hole.

  • I'm going to pass the tanned leather tape through the hole.

  • Pull the soft leather tape and crease the leather.

  • Cut the tanned leather for taping to an appropriate size.
I folded it in half to make it easier to grab, but you don't have to.

  • Cut the tanned leather tape at the part where the tape is left over when the tanned leather is the most open.
Cut the tip of the tape on the cut side diagonally, and finish by pointing the tape stop.
The tape can be cut diagonally or straight.
